Waimatuku is a Winner again….
Our first community planting day this season was at Hamilton’s Gap / Waimatuku - always a popular venue for our volunteers – and why wouldn’t it be in these breathtaking surroundings? Thanks to the 30+ helpers who turned up to continue the dune restoration– we are now working towards the back of this massive foredune, the side nearest the beach ‘doing it’s own thing’ very nicely, as these photos show. After planting our volunteers filled four rubbish sacks with plastic beach debris – mostly tiny pieces which are mistaken for food by fish, and can enter our food chain….(unfortunately more and more of this dangerous debris seems to be collecting on our Tasman coastline). Hungry mouths made short work of Leonie’s yummy afternoon tea – all in all a very successful and sociable day. Thanks team!
