Winter's arrived - that must mean it's planting time!

Yep, winter’s here! We can’t complain, can we, after such a beautiful long, warm autumn but… it’s still a bit of a shock to the system. Luckily our nursery plants are feeling no such shock… thanks to the efforts of our terrific volunteers throughout the year, Awhitu seeds have been collected, sown, propagated, potted on, weeded and watered, and are now positively bursting with good health ready for our busy ‘on the ground’ planting season. Our volunteers have been looking after many areas of community land on the Peninsula for years – planting and weeding for the enjoyment of all, and the benefit of the environment. We’d be really grateful if any of you can lend us a hand to put the thousands of nursery plants ‘rearing to go’ in the ground. Dates are all published on the Events page of our website – the first being Labour Monday, 6 June,1pm at Hamilton’s Gap / Waimatuku, when we’ll be doing a beach clean up as well as planting the foredune. Yummy sausage sizzle to follow. All you need to bring is appropriate covered footwear (there’s a stream to cross), gloves, warm clothing and a spade if you have one – if not, we can supply.  Oh – and if you’ve never visited this dramatic west coast beach before?  - you’ll certainly want to bring a camera!
