2000 more plants in the ground

Well, maybe it was a just that little bit wetter than we had hoped for our planting last Sunday. HUGE thanks to our volunteer team who turned up with smiles and spades, despite the black skies. A smaller turnout than usual at Hamiltons Gap-Waimatuku, but even so we managed to plant 2,000 dune lovers, mostly spinifex and pingao, and collect bags of rubbish.

Weather conditions on this Tasman coast can be fierce, to say the least, and the way plantings have built the dune level up 5-6 metres, by trapping huge volumes of sand, is truly amazing. Watching nature visibly nurture in this way over the past few years has been a real encouragement for our hardworking volunteers.

When planting was over, grateful thanks to Leonie (and Ian and Adam) for a terrific food spread. Leonie had catered for more people but – somehow – it all disappeared….
